The power of promotion: when writers become brand names

Article Abstract:

Penguin Books is implementing a unique marketing plan to push Australian author Bryce Courtenay's new book 'Tommo and Hawk.' Courtenay's last book sold 500,000 copies, and his works have sold 3.1 million since 1990, an unprecedented number in a country where a sale of 30,000 hardback copies is considered spectacular. Penguin wants to push the Australian book industry into modern marketing techniques, including using non-book store marketing channels.

New brooms sweep Reckett & Colman back into healthy growth

Article Abstract:

First half 1997 sales and operating profits were up sharply for the Australian division of Reckitt & Colman, a British packaged-goods company, marking a strong turnaround since 1996. The resurgence is attributed to strong sales in household products, new looks for old brands, and a global strategy which makes use of product label and advertising sharing.
