Tire & rubber industry

Article Abstract:

Rising material costs, especially for natural and synthetic rubber, hurt profit margins for the domestic tire industry in 1995. Material costs will also remain high in 1996, and producers are unable to pass these costs along to consumers in the form of higher prices. Replacement demand is expected to increase with older cars on the road and more passenger miles traveled. The industry is untimely for investors, but individual stocks have long-term growth potential.

Tire & rubber industry

Article Abstract:

Revenues and earnings in 1995 and 1996 will be poor for the tire and rubber industry with higher raw material costs and low demand. Tire shipments for 1995 were 5.4% lower than 1994, but are expected to rise in 1996. Over the next three to five years revenues, earnings, and profit margins are also expected to increase. These stocks are not timely for the short term through 1996, and have only average potential through 1998-2000.

Tire & rubber industry

Article Abstract:

Prices are rising in 1995 for the tire industry, although demand has been slow and the increases may not persist. Lower revenues and earnings through 1996 are expected as a result, but European demand for tires remains strong. A price fixing investigation is being conducted by the Dept of Justice. Timeliness for this industry remains in the bottom third for 1995, but has potential for the next three to five years.
