U.N. panel scores abuses, spares China

The UN Human Rights Commission voted against censuring China for human rights abuses on Mar 8, 1995. Russia cast the decisive vote against the measure. The committee condemned Iran and Sudan for their human rights records and expressed concern over incidents in Haiti, Myanmar and Zaire.

Panel calls for pesticide control

The National Academy of Sciences issued a report Jun 27, 1993, calling for greater regulation of pesticides and stricter tolerance standards. The report also said there was a need for more research into the effects of pesticides on children.
