U.S. plans no action against Microsoft before launch of Windows 95 system; investors had feared probe of bundling could hurt sale of related products
Article Abstract:
The US Justice Dept's Antitrust Div announced that it would not take any antitrust action against Microsoft before the Aug 24, 1995 launch date of its Windows 95 operating system, a move that eases fears throughout the computer industry. The Justice Dept has been investigating whether Microsoft's plans to bundle access to its forthcoming Microsoft Network online information system with Windows 95 violates antitrust laws. Rival online services including America Online, Prodigy and CompuServe claim that including Microsoft Network with Windows 95 would give Microsoft an unfair competitive advantage. The Justice Dept announcement eases concerns in the computer industry, which is anxiously anticipating the new product's launch. Some analysts believe that the Justice Dept may pursue legal action at a later date, but others contend that the failure to issue an injunction before the product launch date signals that Justice has no case.

Prosecutors launch grand-jury inquiry of Symantec executives in secrets case
Article Abstract:
A grand-jury investigation of Symantec Corp executives has reportedly begun. The Santa Cruz County, CA, district attorney's office has investigated Symantec and its employees since Sep 1992, when Eugene Wang, an employee or rival Borland International Inc, left for Symantec, allegedly bringing confidential company materials with him. Investigators found Borland confidential information in the car and home of Symantec CEO Gordon Eubanks. Symantec, Borland and the district attorney's office all refused to comment on the investigation. Symantec is one of the nation's 10 biggest microcomputer software firms.
