U.S. wary on talks with Seoul's Kim over lifting sanctions on North Korea

Article Abstract:

President Kim Dae Jung of South Korea will call for the lifting of some US sanctions against North Korea when he visits the US during the week of June 7-14, 1998. Mr. Kim will also push for a deal that will give nuclear reactors to North Korea. The South Korean president has been advocating a less restrictive strategy in dealing with North Korea. Past South Korean presidents have taken a tougher line towards their country's northern neighbor. Mr. Kim believes that a lessening of some sanctions would encourage North Korea to liberalize.

South Korea wants incentives for North

Article Abstract:

The president of South Korea, Kim Dae Jung, stated that he preferred to rely on positive incentives to improve relations with North Korea. However, the president also said that the US would have to choose the timing and the manner in which the sanctions are lifted. In talks with President Clinton, the issue of economic steps that would revive South Korea's ailing economy were discussed.

High court rules claim-review delays in health payments don't violate rights

Article Abstract:

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that "workers' rights aren't violated when medical payments to doctors are withheld pending a review of claims." Workers in a Pennsylvania case brought the issue before the courts in 1993. The high court's decision should help contain medical costs in the sense that utilization review determines whether charges are necessary and reasonable.
