Wave of violence shakes Guerrero state

Article Abstract:

Guerrero, a poor state in southwestern Mexico, erupted into violence during late June and early July 1995 as police fired upon peasants, killing at least 17 and wounding 24 more. The resignation of the interior minister and other related items are discussed.

Italy grapples with Mafia violence

Article Abstract:

Several anti-Mafia figures have been killed in Italy. Both Palermo Chief Prosecutor Paolo Borsellino and police official Giovanni Lizzio were killed in separate incidents in Jul 1992. The government has deployed troops to fight against the Mafia.

Bombay wracked by sectarian violence

Sectarian violence occurred in Bombay, India, from Jan 5, 1993, to Jan 12, 1993, and 200 deaths were reported. The conflicts between Hindus and Moslems started after Hindu militants destroyed a 16th-century mosque in Ayodhya, India, in Dec 1992.
