'Whales' may frolic painlessly but hooked business minnows slowly expire: gambling addiction can wreak havoc, especially to, and through, those who handle company finances and other people's money

Article Abstract:

A psycho-social modeling of the Australian population estimates the number of compulsive gamblers to be between 1.0 and 1.3% of the non-Aboriginal population. The estimate also likely underestimates gambling addiction among Australians of Asian and Mediterranean ethnicity. There are many services offered to compulsive gamblers, 40% of whom come from business or are professionals. Compulsive gambling is particularly dangerous for people who handle a business' money or professionals who handle other people's money.
