Bots, books, and search engines that find information on the Internet
Article Abstract:
There are several tools that an individual may use in navigating the Internet and locating the information they need in the network. One of these is robot assistants, which are sometimes referred to as bots. These are parcels of artificial intelligence programming having the appropriate if-then strategies for organization of information and identification of answers. They are contained in search engines, on all-in-one search pages and in such programs as Quarterdeck Web Compass. Aside from these bots, search engines are also useful for finding information on the Net. The AltaVista search site is considered to be the best available. It contains the bot known as Scooter, which endlessly indexes all the pages on the Web and the Usenet newsgroups. For those who prefer a phone book style digest in their hands, several yellow pages and white pages for the Net are available.

And just exactly who are you?
Article Abstract:
Several manufacturers have come up with biometric devices that can determine personal identities. LCI Computer Group, for instance, offers the Smartpen, a pen specifically designed to produce a three-dimensional profile of hand movements that is automatically sent to a personal computer. Unitime Systems Inc and Lucent Technologies Inc, meanwhile, introduced hand geometry scans for law enforcement agencies. Lucent Technologies' fingerprint sensor features an analysis software and can be attached to a cellular radio, laptop computer, point-of-sale terminal or access control equipment. Unitime's biometric time clock utilizes fingerprints to identify and clock-in employees, open doors, collect data for job costing and other functions. Other biometric technologies on the market include the One-on-One face-recognition and the IriScan iris identification devices.
