Xerox to launch digital network laser printers
Article Abstract:
Xerox will introduce powerful digital network laser printers, marking the latest battle with Hewlett-Packard for businesses that use digital technologies to handle documents. Xerox is positioning the $2,900 DocuPrint N32 Network Laserprinter to small and midsize businesses, plus office superstores and electronics retailers. A growing number of businesses are preferring printers instead of copiers. H-P offers the LaserJet 5Si, which is priced at approximately $3,400. Both Xerox and H-P 'mopier' products produce multiple copies of computer-created documents at prices that can compete with regular copiers. The Xerox base model's free features consist of the Adobe PostScript software and Internet readiness. Xerox also is touting its new printer's 'microfine' toner cartridges as producing 53% more copies than H-P's comparable cartridges. A less speedy mopier version also is available for $2,450. The launch also represents the public debut of new Xerox Pres Rick Thoman, a former IBM executive.
