Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) has taken legal action against National Training Conference (NTC), a US company, for making deceptive claims in promotion seminars relating to real estate investments. In a landmark settlement, it got the NTC to correct its misrepresentations. NTC has been previously charged with similar charges elsewhere.

The practice of dummy bidding and under quoting by the agents has made many real estate buyers in Australia, to avoid auctions but to prefer direct dealing with the vendors. Though government has banned dummy bidding it is still practiced, the regulators are taking a tough stand on the auctioneers and trying to regularize the process.
