Year-2000 flight bookings climb

Article Abstract:

Despite record airline bookings for 2000, public concerns about airplanes are probably the highest profile examples of year-2000 awareness, and the airline industry is working on information strategies. Major airlines say they will not fly to airports or through airspace if they are not certain that safety would not be compromised. Most of the world's airline systems have or will be testing for year-2000 compliance. Of greater concern are airport environments, global positioning system satellites, and performance of third-party suppliers, including foreign airports, fuel contractors, code-sharing airlines, airspace authorities and utilities.
