$alarie$ 1997
Article Abstract:
The average compensation of management accountants is on the rise even as differences in average salary by age and gender continue to persist. According to a survey of members of the Institute of Management Accountants, management accountants received increases in both average salary and total compensation in 1997. The survey also showed that the average salary for men during the year is higher than that for women. While the women accountants' average salary had a greater percentage increase than that of their male counterparts, the overall difference between their average compensation decreased only slightly. Men also received higher compensation than women for each age category. These differences in average salaries between men and women management accountants may be attributed to age, experience and educational attainment.

Why CPAs should consider the CMA
Article Abstract:
The Certified Management Accountant (CMA) program provides CPAs with several professional advantages. For one, the CMA designation serves as proof of the professional expertise of the certificate holder. The CMA certificate also provides CPAs with credentials which are respected by many of the major US corporations. The academic sector, likewise, regards the CMA as a genuine and accredited professional certification. Preparing for the CMA exam also allows CPAs the opportunity to gain a wider breadth of technical information that will be significant to their professional education and advancement. A survey that studies the differences between CPAs and CMAs in terms of their accounting education and manner of preparation for the CMA exam, as well as the implications of these findings on CPAs, is also discussed.
