A bourse too many: does Bangladesh really need another stock exchange?
Article Abstract:
The Bangladesh government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed has announced the creation of a computerised National Stock Exchange (NSE) and a Central Depository System. The measure is an attempt to remove the kerb market's main advantages over the Dhaka Stock Exchange and aims to increase transparency in the market. However, many market watchers do not believe the market needs another bourse and warn that the creation of the NSE will generate more demand for the short supply of stocks. DSE chairman Imtiyaz Husain feels that a new exchange would allow the government to interfere in the secondary market.

Nomura's move
Article Abstract:
Nomura Securities joined the Bermuda Stock Exchange (BSX) in Aug 1996. BSX aims to be the first wholly electronic offshore securities market and could attract offshore deposits through this move. Issuers with a Bermuda listing can attract funds from the US with no need to list in the US under regulation by the Securities and Exchange Commission. BSX also aims to capture trading business from London, England, in Singapore and Hong Kong stocks at times when Asian markets have shut. BSX can charge lower fees than the London Stock Exchange.
