A capital hotch-potch
Article Abstract:
The United Kingdom government has distributed nearly 1 billion pounds sterling of funds from the National Lottery for major capital projects in London, England. There is a difference between this building program and those of mainland Europe, where the city is seen as a whole. Funds from the lottery have been given to different organizations in London, each with different criteria for projects. There has also been a reliance on the private sector in London. London also lacks a manager for the city as a whole, such as a mayor.

British commercial redevelopment, which hit a low point in 1993 with a glut of unused buildings, is enjoying a resurgence. Work has resumed on the once- abandoned Canary Wharf project in London, and the Battersea power station is being considered for a similar shopping and leisure complex.

The popular West End productions often inflict theater-goers with trivial playbills filled with cast and crew biographies. Subsidized theaters deliver substantial information, and often the full texts of new plays, for excellent programs which are worth the 2 pound price.
