Decorate your bathroom with 12 dozen eggs

Article Abstract:

The Local Exchange and Trading System (LETS) group in the Blue Mountains, near Sydney, Australia, has nearly 200 members who exchange work, goods and skills via a coordinator for units of exchange known as Ecos. Financial terms are not used, rather acknowledgement and commitment. Trust between members is eased because everyone is known to each other and most do not mind giving more than they receive occasionally. Similar schemes operate in Canada. In March 1992 tax rules were changed to include anything that occupies sufficient time.

A hundred years of fortitude

Article Abstract:

Kuwait is to pass a law granting women political rights, a move that highlights the position of women in Arab societies. There have been some improvements in the position of women in the 20th century in terms of education, employment, and family law, but there are still obstacles to change. Islamic fundamentalism has halted progress in some countries, and women have few political rights. There is also the problem of 'honor' killings, for which men receive light sentences.
