A more mature market

Article Abstract:

The management buyout market in the Netherlands, for 1997, is not performing to the levels of transactions carried out in 1996. Some previous buyouts have failed and gone into receivership. Around 45% of buyouts were due to large companies divesting part of their operations. Venture capitalists, from the Netherlands, invested Dfl.396 million, in 1996, an increase of 76%. The value of buyout deals, in 1996, reached 684 million pounds sterling. Many Dutch companies prefer to sell their operations to other companies rather than become involved in management buyout transactions.

The various family groupings which still controlled the company were unable to reach an acceptable agreement, so it was decided to go ahead with a full sale. German concern Eckes was identified as a potential purchaser, but an initial meeting did not take place until the second half of 1993. The deal was finally completed in May 1995.
