A new spirit in Angell Town
Article Abstract:
The Angell Town estate in Brixton has been vastly improved over recent years, with the tenants association working hard to ensure that it did not become a black ghetto. The London International Festival of Theatre (LIFT) organised the Angell Town Festival 1991, which marked developments in the area and created a sense of community. All projects are now being coordinated by the Angell Town Community Project (ATCP), to ensure that funding is used as effectively as possible, and a preliminary programme is now remodelling 40 of the 750 flats on the estate.

New look for Bristol
Article Abstract:
Bristol, England, has held an exhibition of ideas for improving the city. Groups and individuals were invited to submit ideas for improvement and the results were exhibited for a month under the title '50 Ideas for Bristol.' Several contributors were architects. Their ideas included a scheme for renovating Spike Island into a recreational area, adding gardens to the Broadmead shopping centre, reviving Bedminster Parade and creating miniture exhibition spaces around the city. Unfortunately, few of the ideas were well presented.

First nibble on Palumbo's bait
Article Abstract:
The emphasis being given by the Arts Council's architecture unit to the creation of architecture centres has attracted interest from Birmingham, UK, which is seeking funding for such a venture. The centre would allow Birmingham residents to obtain information and make their opinions felt, and would be a valuable contribution to local discussion on planning, design and architecture. In Birmingham, the project would be particularly relevant in the light of the wider discussion about the future of the city centre.
