A tree grows in Brooklyn

Article Abstract:

Red Hook is an area of Brooklyn, New York, hit by high crime and unemploment levels. The Red Hook Community Justice Centre aims to tackle the problem of faith in the justice system, tackling minor crimes and allowing the cases to be dealt with by someone who knows the area well. The center will also offer services for the community such as treatment for alcoholism, and will allow local people to voice concern on issues related to the community. Success would help in tackling crime and deprivation, as well as benefiting the AmeriCorps program.
