ADDING VALUE TO STAY AHEAD

Article Abstract:

Maral Overseas Ltd (MOL) is a fully integrated cotton unit. Its product portfolio includes yarn, fabric and knitwear. MOL of the Bhilwara group began operations as a 100 percent export oriented unit (EoU) producing combed cotton yarn. This was exported to end- user knitters. It ventured into high value-added products such as knitted fabrics. About 70 percent of MOL's exports are to the US, France and Germany. MOL has implemented a Rs63 crore capital expenditure plan to expand spindleage to 54,528 spindles. It has added five knitting machines and a 4.2 mega watt diesel generating set. Of the 18.86 crore equity of MOL, promoters hold 47 percent and the public 33 percent. For 1998-99, MOL is expected to achieve sales of Rs200 crore and a net profit of Rs19 crore. Yarn exports are estimated to reach Rs107 crore, fabric Rs18 crore and knitwear Rs50 crore. During 1999-2000, MOL plans to focus on knitted dyed and processed fabrics. (uh)(m)
