U.S. power crisis may scuttle Enron's sale of electricity unit

Article Abstract:

Sierra Pacific Resources planned acquisition of Enron Corp.'s Portland General Electric unit may be terminated because of the western US power crisis. Sierra was to have acquired the unit for $2 billion (2.25 billion euros).

AEP plans biggest power plant using clean-coal technology: utility sees construction of 1,000 megawatt project within five to six years

American Electric Power Co. is planning to build a coal-fired power plant that will use an advanced technology, known as integrated gasification combined cycle, that reduces pollutants and particulates. It will be the largest plant of its kind.
