ASEAN looks to the new year
Article Abstract:
The Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) has held its annual meeting for 1998 in Vietnam, and has made little progress in terms of economic initiatives. Cambodian admission to ASEAN is one of the issues dividing members. There are also divisions on how national economies should deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and those that have received aid wish to continue with reforms that were a condition of such aid. Recovery of the region's economies relates more to national policies than to wider agreements.
