AUSTRIA: AUTOMOTIVE SUPPLIERS' CHALLENGES

Mario Rohracher, managing director of the Austrian automotive industry suppliers' forum, says that Austrian automotive part makers have to internationalise and expand in the field of electronics. Mr Rohracher predicts that the electronics share of cars will rise to 35%. Mr Rohracher predicts a 10% growth for the Austrian automotive suppliers in 1999. In 1998 production amounted to Sch 61.5bn, compared with Sch 56bn in 1997 and Sch 37bn in 1990. Including services, turnover is about Sch 85bn-90bn.

AUSTRIA/ITALY: BENETTON TO SET UP MEGASTORES
Article Abstract:
While boosting electronic trade, the Italian clothing group Benetton is also planning to set up 120 megastores worldwide. The first ones were already opened in Rome, Dusseldorf and Cologne. In the next three years the company will set up an outlet of 2,000 sq.m in Vienna and one of 3,000 sq.m in Graz. Beside clothing, the stores will stock children's clothing, sports-related products and accessories.
