AUSTRIA/GERMANY: INTERNET TV BY WEBFREETV

Article Abstract:

An Austrian company called Webfreetv.com is to launch Internet Television. It will be offering videos both for the public on its home page and for special target groups on company home pages. Most of the videos will be produced by Webfreetv.com. There will be a separate channel for users' own productions. The viewing of www.webfreetv.com is free of charge. The service is financed by advertising and company channels. Webfreetv.com has developed a new technology to improve image quality. The company is setting hopes on the broad-band technology offered by Chello and Telekom Austria. Webfreetv.com has signed a cooperation agreement with Deutsche Telekom, which makes the service available to 50% of the German market.

Austria: MediaClan wins battle with ferrero

Article Abstract:

The Austrian subsidiary of Italian sweet manufacturer Ferrero has failed in its bid to sue the Internet site www.kinder.at belonging to the Viennese company MediaClan. Ferrero, which produces the makes of Chocolate Nutella, Ferrero Rocher, Mon Cheri, Kinder Surprise and Kinder Milchschnitte was suing on the grounds of MediaClan using the word kinder. The industrial court decided the word kinder was meant to indicate the product was intended for people of a young age, not that kinder referred to the food item itself.

AUSTRIA: SPAMS PROHIBITED

Article Abstract:

The Austrian parliament has approved a ban on unsolicited commercial e-mail. Austria is the second country in Europe, after Germany, to forbid spams. The fines for violations against the ban will be regulated within the reform of the Telecommunications law.
