AUSTRIA: NEW TRAINS FOR AIRPORT LINK

Article Abstract:

OBB is inviting tenders for and negotiating about the financing of a new generation of city trains for the S7 line to Vienna railway station. About 20 train sets will be needed. The rest of the Sch 3.3bn cost of the project is to be provided by the Austrian government. Work on the line is to start in spring 2000 and be completed two years later. Then travelling time will be reduced from 34 to 24 minutes. From 2003 the service will run every 15 rather than 30 minutes, as the new trains will accelerate quicker.
