AUSTRIA: ROMERQUELLE BETTING ON RESTAURANTS

Article Abstract:

The Austrian mineral water producer Romerquelle has seen its market share in the food retail trade fall to just under 23%, while Voslauer has gained more than 30% of this market, according to Nielsen figures. Romerquelle aims to raise its leadership of the overall mineral water market from 39% to 42%. It is setting hopes especially on restaurants and bars and on the new 0.75-litre Romerquelle Pur bottle. According to managing director Anton Wandl, Romerquelle is not considering to withdraw from the multi-trip bottle market despite increasing competition from single-trip bottles.

HUNGARY: TAKEOVER PLANS BY ROMERQUELLE

Austria's leading mineral water producer Romerquelle is looking for takeover candidates in Hungary. Altogether the company has about Sch 100mn in its coffers for acquisitions. In year 2000 Romerquelle expects a turnover of Sch 20mn in Hungary, where per capita consumption of mineral water is low, at 25 litres per year, compared with 75 litres in Austria.

AUSTRIA: MINERAL WATER BOTTLERS OPTIMISTIC

Article Abstract:

The three big mineral water producers Romerquelle, Voslauer and Waldquelle predict the sales of mineral water in Austria to grow by no less than 10% in year 2000. In the first quarter of the year sales increased by no more than 0.4%, but warm weather since has boosted demand by up to 50%.
