AUSTRIA: TELEKOM STRUGGLING TO MEET DEMAND

Article Abstract:

According to Rudolf Fischer who is responsible for technology at Telekom Austria (TA), the former monopoly is to spend a few thousand million schillings on expanding the asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) infrastructure. TA started offering ADSL services in late autumn 1999. Demand has exceeded the company's expectations, and there have been capacity problems. TA has stopped marketing the ADSL Complete package that involved internet access with ISDN and is offering compensations to clients who have not been able to use the service fully. TA aims to gain 100,000 clients for ADSL by the end of year 2000.
