US expands requirements for aircraft pods

Article Abstract:

The United States Air Force has started specifying improvements for its aircraft pods based on the experiences gained during the 1999 North Atlantic Treaty Organization action against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The Air Combat Command has already approved a plan that could result in a 12-month accelerated engineering and manufacturing development contract for modified pods with Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control.

Airborne Communications Node expands to incorporate SIGINT

Article Abstract:

DARPA's Advanced Technology Office has completely reorganized the Airborne Communications Node (ACN) as part of an effort to use the same equipment for communications, signal intelligence and other electronic-warfare applications. The first phase of ACN, which delved on system-level design, included aspects such as mitigating co-siting effects and its potential installation aboard the Global Hawk. The second phase, which would be completed by Aug 2002, covers a wider range of applications and platforms that could result in a lower unit price.

WolfPack collaborates to jam communications

Article Abstract:

DARPA is expected to award contracts in 2001 for enabling technologies needed by the WolfPack networked electronic warfare system. WolfPack would rely on networks of independent low-power jammers to interfere with enemy communications in the 20MHz-to-2.5GHz frequency range. DARPA envisions WolfPack as clusters of small but collaborating jammers operating in a 100km-x-100km area. Enabling technologies include analog-to-digital converters, antennas and signal processing.
