Alstom net more than doubles as demand for power expands

First-quarter net profit for French engineering company Alstom S.A. rose to $606.2 mil, more than double the figure from the previous year. Revenue increased by 14%. Growth was driven by high demand for power generation technologies.

European Union antitrust regulators will approve France's bailout of engineering company Alstom S.A. only if French officials require the company to form industrial partnerships. Such an agreement would end French control of Alstom.
