An anxious yes

Article Abstract:

The question of whether painting can continue as an art form has often been asked, and its demise has often been announced. Painters go through periods of doubts, and then paint and announce that painting has been reborn. This issue is tackled at an exhibition at Whitechapel Art Gallery, London, England, which covers works from European and North American painters over 40 years. The works reflect anxieties about painting and the show is seen by its presenters as a type of answer to questions on the survival of painting.
