Apollo lifts offer for Countrywide: new rival bid forces buyout firm's hand, delays court backing

Article Abstract:

US investment firm Apollo Management L.P. raised its initial offer for UK real estate company Countrywide PLC after Countrywide received a rival bid just two days before Apollo's offer was expected to be approved by Countrywide's shareholders. Apollo's first offer of 590 pence per share was upped to 617 pence to counter the rival bid.
