Apps on tap
Article Abstract:
Sun Microsystems is to acquire Star Division and plans to give away StarOffice, which can be used with Microsoft applications as well as run using the Solarus operating system from Sun, or Linux. This could affect Microsoft Office sales, though companies using StarOffice would have to invest in retraining staff. Star Division's software is also to be transformed into a service available online. Sun is able to offer StarPortal free since the company makes enough money from selling servers.
