Asia speaks up on the Web; providers tap distae of US biases on Internet

Article Abstract:

International Data Corp. (IDC) said US-based users of the Internet no longer outnumber users outside of the US. The US-based technology research firm said the number of users in both categories match each other for the first time for a total of 112 million users around the globe. IDC approximates that there will be only 30% of the expected 467 million users by the year 2002 will be based in the US. The research firm credits the change in numbers to an increasing number of Asian businessmen who install search engines and Internet sites with a regional appeal. It used to be that content in the Internet was dominated by US providers where extensive use of the Internet was introduced.
