Article Abstract:

Matsushita Electric Industrial of Japan is set to introduce the interactive multi-player to halt the first-ever production decline of the country's consumer electronics industry since 1976. Together with Trip Hawkins of the newly formed 3DO, Matsushita hopes to set a new standard in interactive multimedia technology. The company's new product will play three different types of compact disc (CD): regular audio CDs, digital movies on CD and video games.

Article Abstract:

The introduction of high-definition TV (HDTV) in Japan resulted inthe emergence of two important technical issues. These are inter-operability and flexibility of the systems. The sets must be compatible with computers and other digital systems and must be able to accomodate future innovations in TV use. The low sales rate of HDTV sets in Japan indicate that consumers may not be ready to pay huge sums of money for the sake of clearer pictures.

Article Abstract:

Digital audio is expected to becomes recordable in 1992. Two new audio formats are set for introduction in the consumer market. One is the digital compact cassette developed by Philips Consumer Electronics Co, and the other is the mini disc of Sony Corp. The two formats are expected to directly compete for market share but it is still unclear which format consumers will prefer.
