Article Abstract:
Accounting firms have sometimes missed irregularities, and this be be linked to a view that auditing is a loss leader, while other services are more lucrative. Conflicts of interest can arise when partners in accounting firms hold stocks in companies that they are auditing. Accounting companies seeking to sell tax or consultancy services may also be involved in conflicts of interest when they carry out auditing. This means that accounting independence standards are important, and they are regulated by the Independence Standards Board.
