Austria: Steirische Ferngas dismisses Austrian solution

Article Abstract:

The parent company Energie Steiermark of Austrian based grid gas provider Steirische Ferngas is exclusively negotiating with French based gas company Gaz de France, thus putting an end to negotiations with the council services, the Austrian based oil company OMV and Austrian energy supplier EVN. Steirische Ferngas believes that this will benefit the Austrians as it guarantees competition. The decision is due to the fact that Steirische Ferngas would have to involve 80% of its gas business in cooperation with the Austrian companies, though it would only have 10% of the voting rights.
