BATA DRAWS UP SINGLE HUB STRATEGY FOR INDIA BUSINESS

Article Abstract:

Bata Shoe Organisation (BSO) of Toronto, Canada, plans to have a single production and marketing hub for the region comprising India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, to increase volume growth and profit margins. It proposes to have a single chief executive officer in charge of operations of Bata companies in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh as part of its Vision- 2001 plan. A 16 member team is studying the proposal. Bata India, Bata Bangladesh, Bata Sri Lanka and Bata Pakistan will remain as independent units. (rk)

REEBOK SHIFTS MARKETING STRATEGY TO COUNTER NIKE

Article Abstract:

Reebok proposes to reorient its marketing strategy. The move is aimed at competing Nike's marketing strategy of focusing on air technology. Reebok plans to concentrate on its latest technology to promote its shoe brands. All the forthcoming television advertisements of Reebok will highlight the dynamic cushioning and 3-D technologies used by Reebok. The television campaigns will commence from the third week of November 1998. Currently, Reebok is trying develop a 3-D shoe brand which will be sold at Rs1,400 by 1999. (ag)

BATA STEPS UP PLAN TO ACHIEVE Rs1,000 CR TURNOVER BY 2000

Bata India Limited (BIL) has undertaken Plan 2000 mission to achieve a target turnover of Rs1,000 crore by selling 100 million pairs of shoes. BIL has posted a sales turnover of Rs671 crore in 1997 by selling about 62 million pairs of shoes.
