Beijing, U.S. accelerate WTO push as worries deepen

Article Abstract:

Analysts project China's full-year gross domestic product could shrink to about 7.5% if World Trade Organization (WTO) membership is delayed. Despite Chinese bilateral trade agreements with 36 of the 37 WTO countries, membership faces possible delay for a myriad of reasons including issues involving trading rights for foreign companies, antidumping regulations, and lack of a bilateral trading agreement with Mexico.

A new beginning for China

Article Abstract:

China's formal entry into the World Trade Organization will require the government to commit to global competition and corporate privatization. While state-run monopolies will be diminished, the government will be able to cut costs and accept foreign capital. The effects of World Trade Organization membership on China's economy is discussed in further detail.

U.S. anti-dumping suits are piling up on Beijing

Article Abstract:

Several U.S. companies have filed antidumping suits against China recently, demanding punitive tariffs because their competitors are allegedly undercutting prices. The dumping disputes, combined with the U.S. economic slowdown and a worldwide trend favoring inexpensive imports, may lead to more tense trade relations between the U.S. and China.
