Beyond photorealism: a 3D paint program under development offers tools for intuitive sketch imaging that can provide a user-friendly alternative to photorealism
Article Abstract:
The Martin Centre has developed Piranesi, which is a three-dimensional paint program, or interactive renderer. A model is set up and rendered simply initially and this is saved in an extended TIFF file. Matting is used to replace the use of selection masks as in traditional pain programs. It can paste in elements, such as trees or figures, and textures can be scanned from photographs. Hand drawn textures can also be used. Also provide is edge drawing, a fog brush and a Kango tool.
