Big European banks seek next frontier in Romania

Article Abstract:

Banca Comerciala Romana S.A. of Romania is to be acquired by another European bank for 2.5 billion Euros or $3 billion. Nine rival banks are expected to bid for Romania's largest bank, including Austria's Erste Bank Group, Deutsche Bank AG and National Bank of Greece S.A. European banks with slow growth home markets of one to two percent have raced into banking investments in Eastern Europe.

Amid European fray, biggest bank deal ever: Dutch ABN to unveil pact with Barclays, with rivals circling

Article Abstract:

ABN AMRO Holding N.V. has agreed to sell its American division, LaSalle, for $21 bil to Bank of America Corp. in an effort to block the consortium of banks that is offering a rival bid to that of Barclays PLC for ABN. Barclays and ABN are expected to announce a sales deal totaling approximately $90 bil, but the LaSalle deal will reduce the Barclays deal value to around $70 bil.

Barclays nears $80 billion deal for ABN Amro?

Article Abstract:

ABN Amro Holding N.V. of the Netherlands is to acquire Barclays PLC of the United Kingdom for greater than $80 billion. The merged synergy would be the largest banking interest in Europe. The deal is so large it is possible that it could unwind as negotiations continue.
