Black Sea mischief

Article Abstract:

The Georgian government is seeking to control separatism and this includes an effort to control Abkhazia, from where ethnic Georgians had to flee in 1993. The Russians will maintain part of their garrison in Abkhazia, and Russia will also retain tropps in southern Georgia. Georgia has argued to the United Nations Security Countil that Georgians have been affected by ethnic cleansing in Abkhazia. There is little possibility of compromise between rebels in Abkhazia and the Georgian government.

Barnes-storming in Georgia

Article Abstract:

Georgia governor, George Barnes, is a Democrat who has submitted 27 measures to the General Assembly of Georgia in 1999, and all have passed. The Georgia Regional Transportation Authority has been set up which gives him complete control of development and transportation. Barnes has also set up a commission on education and plans a conservation authority. His power could be undermined by the end of the economic boom which would reduce the funds at his disposal.
