Article Abstract:
The Lebanese civil war has been portrayed in a number of motion pictures and 'West Beyrouth' was well received when it was released in 1998. The movie portrays a teenager and his experiences in Beirut when his school is closed by fighting. Other movies showing the civil war include 'The Pink House' and 'Civilized People', the last to be shown in France though is has not been licensed for showing in the Lebanon. The passion and humor of 'Civilized People' make it attractive, though it also contains a serious mesage about prejudice and violence.

Hollywood premieres
Article Abstract:
There was a motion picture industryin Brighton, England, to 1909, but the industry first developed in any strength in the east coast of the US. The Motion Picture Patents Company was set up in 1908, and functioned as a cartel, excluding competitors. Hollywood was developed as a center for movie making, accounting for 80% of world production capacity by 1918. Snobbery meant that Hollywood's employees in the movie industry were initially looked down on, but this changed as they were seen to be successful.
