Compete or die
Article Abstract:
Deputy Prime Minister Supachai Panichpakdi oversees industry, finance and trade issues for the Thai cabinet. His chief concern is the nation's competitiveness as its wages rise. Current problems are cyclical and the economy is fundamentally sound, but Thailand's position will soon be challenged. It must lengthen education, simplify its tariffs, diversify its agriculture and focus on manufacturing components rather than on assembly.
