Bombs away: South Africa
Article Abstract:
South African Pres Frederick W de Klerk revealed that South Africa did build six nuclear bombs before 1989 but dismantled the weapons before signing the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty in 1991. De Klerk said South Africa never planned to explode the bombs and denies having tested any.
