Article Abstract:

In Asia, some local bonds rating agencies are under political pressure to give positive ratings, which may bias their objectivity. Care should be taken to investigate the rating agency and to use the rating only as a guideline to how much risk is involved. A list of local rating companies in Asia is included.

Asia has been cut off from raising money on international capital markets in light of September 11, 2001. Firms, which the exception of top tier companies, have been shut out of bond markets.

Bond fever may bode ill: Corporate credit is contracting at Asian banks

Article Abstract:

Excess cash at Asian banks is being used to buy Asian bond issues, instead of lending to companies. Companies would rather issue bonds, and individuals would rather buy bonds than invest their money in other, more risky ways.
