Boom time for M&A in Ireland

Article Abstract:

An annual survey of the Irish merger and acquisition (M&A) market conducted by Chapman Flood shows that around 156 transactions took place in 1996, against 104 deals in 1995. Value of the transactions in 1996 totalled 2.43 billion Irish pounds, compared with 944 million Irish pounds in 1995. The most active sector in value terms was financial services, followed by property and construction. Food and drinks companies were conspicuously absent during the period, possibly because of problems experienced by some Irish dairy companies in global markets.

Opportunity knocks in the Irish buyout market

Article Abstract:

Ireland's strong economic growth has encouraged much foreign investment, particularly by US companies. Management buyouts (MBO) and management buyins (MBI) have become increasingly popular although there is still room for further expansion. NatWest Equity Partners is a leading player in the MBO/MBI market and works closely with Irish partners such as airport operator Aer Rianta, which acquired a 42 million pounds sterling, 40% stake in Birmingham International Airport in the UK.
