U.S. asks auto makers to disable rear airbags
Article Abstract:
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration chief Ricardo Martinez, in a letter to automakers, has asked them to disable rear-seat side airbags. The agency has discovered evidence that such airbags can cause minor injuries to children, and it is urging automakers to allow customers to decide whether they want the devices activated. Volkswagen AG, DaimlerChrysler AG, General Motors, and Bayerische Motoren Werke AG produce vehicles that have rear-seat side airbags.
