Bu? What bug?
Article Abstract:
Japan has realised that preparations for the year 2000 have been insufficient, and the computer transition problem could have serious consequences. Warburg Dillon Read ranks Japan behind Thailand, Chile and Hungary in terms of preparedness. Small firms are especially uneprepared, but the government is also worried about the slow response of public services and large firms. Nippon Steel, and even Nintendo are among companies that have been seen as unprepared.

Stop the clock
Article Abstract:
There is concern that the Year 2000 computer transition problem could lead to the dislocation of transportation systems, food supply, health services and financial markets. A meeting of experts has been convened to address the problem at the United Nations. Yet it is these experts who created the problem in the first place. A number of solutions have been proposed to tackle the problem, but the only solution comes from poets, and that is to stop the clock.

Article Abstract:
The US has threatened trade sanctions against China if it does not stop the counterfeiting of compact discs, software and videos. The Chinese government has only managed to destroy 2M of the estimated 54M counterfeited products produced in 1995. China says it will retaliate with its own sanctions.
