Building ideas

Article Abstract:

American architect Louis Kahn was not afraid to address real issues, and became involved in questions such as public housing. He turned away from Le Courbusier's views, stating that a room should be a unit in 'a society of rooms', but his approval of the sensibility of the old order did not stop him introducing reinforced concrete technology into the USA, which had previously used only steel frame. He believed firmly that architecture had a basic purpose, and his work was always powerful.
