CIOB's new project management code: architects and RIBA 'outflanked.' (Chartered Institute of Building, Royal Institute of British Architects)
Article Abstract:
The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) has published a 'definitive' code for project management. The 'Code of Practice for Project Management for Construction and Development' defines project management as a specific practice. Its three parts cover basic principles, conditions of engagement and a handbook. The code has been criticised by the Royal Institute of British Architects for placing emphasis on the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyor's conditions of engagement but CIOB claims this is not meant to specify surveyors as project managers or to exclude architects.

RIBA Council's swingeing budget cuts hit regions and CPD
Article Abstract:
The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Council has agreed a package of spending cuts totalling 279,750 pounds sterling. The cuts are designed to hold subscription fees at 1992 levels but have been criticised by regional representatives. The critics claim services to members in the reigons will suffer as the regional budget has already been cut by 25,000 pounds in Jul 92 and will face a similar cut under the present plans. They claim too much of members money is used to fund activities at headquarters.
