COLGATE, HLL BACK ON WARPATH

Article Abstract:

The Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Commission (MRTPC) has imposed a penalty of Rs2000 on Hindustan Lever Ltd (HLL) for civil and criminal contempt for breaching its injunction order. Colgate Palmolive had initiated proceedings against HLL for claiming that its Pepsodent brand of toothpaste was 102 percent superior over Colgate Dental Cream. The MRTPC had passed an order and restrained HLL from referring to any Colgate toothpaste in its advertisements. HLL had released a press statement on November 6, 1998 which did not mention the order passed by the Commission. (khr)

MACCL ON REVAMP DRIVE, OFFERS VRS TO EMPLOYEES

Article Abstract:

Mysore Acetate and Chemicals Company Ltd has undertaken a major restructuring programme and has offered a voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) to 405 employees. The government of Karnataka has given Rs5 crore to the company for implementing the VRS, which involves a total outgo of Rs9.5 crore. The state government holds about 80 percent stake in the company, which has a total asset value of Rs36 crore, excluding machinery. (khr)
